At the end of 2011, Hexis Racing et McLaren Group jointly announced that the French team would enter two examples of the new MP4-12C GT3 to race in the 2012 edition of the FIA GT1 World Championship. This relationship brings together one of the greatest names in motor sport; McLaren Racing – winner of 20 Formula 1 World titles (drivers and teams combined) – and the young French Hexis team, winners of the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship.
Martin Whitmarsh said: “I am delighted that Hexis will be running the 12C GT3 in 2012. With the engineering support of McLaren GT and a car bristling with Formula 1 technology, I am sure this partnership will be successful.” The McLaren Group CEO’s forecast proved to be correct. Achievements were beyond expectations.
Hexis Racing is taking on its new challenge with a pair of upgraded MP4-12 GT3s. The 2013-specification model features a number of changes, which are designed to offer enhanced reliability and efficiency.
The changes include an upgraded ECU with a revised electrical system and alternative dampers. The revised aerodynamics package will further improve the balance and tyre management. The 2013 12C GT3 also benefits from an updated cooling system designed to optimise performance of the car in more varied conditions. These enhancements are evident through the updated bonnet and ducting, designed to ensure that the 12C GT3 can run competitively in higher temperatures than those experienced during 2012.
